Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) is the first and only chartered and autonomous university funded by a city government. It was created by the Congress of the Philippines by virtue of Republic Act No. 4196 or “An Act Authorizing the City of Manila to Establish and Operate the University of City of Manila” on June 19, 1965.
The university first opened its gates on July 17, 1967 to 556 first-year students at its campus in the historic Intramuros district, which served as the seat of power during the Spanish occupation. Currently, about 10,000 graduate and post-graduate students grace its halls to receive PLM’s quality education.
PLM takes pride in being one of the country’s leading institutions for higher education, consistently achieving high passing rates in board examinations and producing competent professionals across various fields. The university offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and graduate programs in medicine, engineering, business, arts and sciences, education, and other disciplines, all while maintaining its commitment to providing quality yet accessible education to deserving students.

The Institute for Study and Development Worldwide (IFSD), part of SD World Pty Ltd., is an international research and development advisory firm based in Australia (ABN 91 615 770 280). IFSD is committed to catalysing climate-resilient development through research, policy analysis, capacity building, and innovative development actions. We work with local communities, governments, national and international development organisations, businesses, and research groups to develop and implement inclusive and transformative solutions to social and environmental problems.
IFSD’s work is guided by its core values: environmental sustainability, equity and fairness, knowledge for impact, and collaborative problem-solving. Over the past 7 years, the IFSD team has worked extensively across Asia, the Pacific, and Africa, building partnerships among academic institutions, local communities, policymakers, and the private sector. Additionally, IFSD has also developed a few tools for collaborative action and learning, such as policy lab methods through which practitioners and researchers can foster co-learning and drive policy innovation to tackle socio-environmental challenges.
